Rangers memory regret as striker shows what we’re missing

One year ago, almost to the day, Rangers went to Tynecastle and hammered Hearts 4-0, with two strikers and a winger scoring, Antonio Colak scoring a double

The big Croatian moved to Parma in the summer with Michael Beale preferring an unfit and uninterested Alfredo Morelos through the middle towards the end of the season.

The Rangers manager has lost his job and one of the reasons is because of a lack of goals, this time last season, Antonio Colak was already on double figures after his brace against Hearts.

Rangers memory sees Antonio Colak exit regret

For a fee of aroud £2m, Colak left for Serie B and for circa £4m, Cyriel Dessers signed for Rangers from the same league.

It doesn’t take a genius to do the maths.

One of the criticisms thrown at Colak was that his build up play wasn’t good enough.

Did it have to be?

A number nines main job is to score goals, Kyogo Furuhashi can touch the ball six times in a game and still be the match winner..

This is even more relevant when the other 10 players in the team do not have great records for finding the back of the net.

In the game against Hearts, Rangers under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, looked like a corner had been turned and were emphatic.

Watching Antonio Colak’s goals back reminds you of what a striker should be capable of too.

Would he have scored Dessers early chance against Aberdeen?

Probably.

The signing of Dessers is still one that I understand, he has a good pedigree and is an all round striker.

However, for £4m and to be classed as our first choice target with no sell on value?

I know who Rangers fans would prefer to still have the number nine on their back if they had a choice – be careful what you wish for and all that.
