Sky Sports News have dropped an intriguing update on Rangers’ manager hunt amid speculation that an announcement is imminent.

Since Steven Gerrard left for Aston Villa last week, a number of names have been linked with the vacancy.

Former Rangers player and ex-Feyenoord manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is currently the favourite and Bears have been getting excited on Tuesday, tracking flights into Glasgow and reading into tweets from ex-players.

However, several sources have suggested that an announcement isn’t likely today and now Sky Sports News have claimed it isn’t a one-man race.

“Breaking news comes from Scotland concerning Rangers,” said presenter Hayley McQueen on Tuesday afternoon. “Sky Sports News have been told that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is having further talks with Rangers about the vacant managerial position.”

“It’s understood he’s not the only candidate, though the club is pleased with the progress that they are making.”

It’s clear that although a Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Hibernian is coming up at the weekend, the club aren’t rushing the process and that’s commendable.

After all, Gerrard’s departure was unexpected and a strong interim team is in place to get the players ready for Hampden.

That being said, it would still be a surprise if GVB wasn’t in the dugout when Sunday comes around.

Meanwhile, Kevin Thomson has tweeted again after an initial afternoon tweet ramped up speculation that he could return to Ibrox as a member of the next coaching staff.
