Sky Sports and BBC Sport have provided fresh updates on Rangers’ hunt for a new manager.
It’s been almost a week since Steven Gerrard abruptly left Ibrox for Aston Villa and it looks like the process of securing his replacement is nearing an end.

A number of names have been linked with the vacancy but Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been the favourite for a number of days and the former Gers midfielder looks set to land the job.
On Wednesday evening, Sky Sports reported that GvB is ‘close to agreeing a deal in principle to become the new Rangers manager’.
It was claimed that the 46-year-old is ‘nearing a return to Ibrox’, with Rangers ‘very pleased’ with the swift recruitment process carried out by sporting director Ross Wilson.
Elsewhere in the article, it’s suggested that the current interim coaching team could still be in charge for Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Hibernian, with GvB and his staff then taking over ahead of next week’s crunch Europa League clash against Sparta Prague.

The BBC opted to stay a little more on the fence with their update, stating that Rangers were ‘closing in on a new manager appointment’ and were hopeful of getting it done before Sunday, but stopping short of asserting that it’s van Bronckhorst who’ll land the job.
The report added that if the successful candidate comes from abroad, they would require a working visa, ‘which could delay the starting date’.
Sky Sports and BBC issue Rangers manager hunt updates
GvB already has the backing of many Bears and therefore, Sky Sports’ update will be well received by the majority of the fanbase.
It’s interesting that the BBC doesn’t quite feel confident enough to call it yet, suggesting it’s still possible there could be a twist in the tale.
Yet, at this stage, it would be a major surprise if GvB isn’t the man and if the paperwork can be sorted before Sunday’s Hampden clash, it could give the squad a real boost.
Meanwhile, an international boss has suggested that an important player would be better off leaving Rangers.
