Ex-Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner was tipped to take over at Rangers – now he’s closing in on a move to Crystal Palace.

That’s according to leading transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has been closely following the situation on social media platform X.

According to Romano, Crystal Palace are now set to relieve veteran manager Roy Hodgson of his duties at Selhurst Park before replacing him with Oliver Glasner.

Crystal Palace close in on Oliver Glasner

If the deal goes through, it will be Glasner’s first job in management since leaving Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of the 2022/23 season.

The Austrian manager is most familiar to Rangers fans as being the man who broke their hearts in Seville by guiding Frankfurt to a penalty kicks victory in the Europa League Final.

In Frankfurt’s finest moment for a generation, Oliver Glasner’s side defeated Rangers on spot-kicks after a 1-1 draw in Spain. Sam Lammers was also part of the German side’s squad.

But more recently, the manager was named as a potential option to take over at Rangers following the sacking of Michael Beale last year.

Glasner has also recently been mentioned alongside the Bayern Munich job with the pressure building on Thomas Tuchel.

Rangers happy with manager choice

Whilst Oliver Glasner certainly has strong pedigree as a manager, Crystal Palace will be the 49-year-old former LASK manager’s first gig in the Premier League.

Rangers too will be glad to have moved elsewhere back in October 2023, if they were ever interested at all, with Philippe Clement the current man of the moment at Ibrox.

Qualifying for the Europa League last 16, winning the League Cup, and losing a seven point gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership, it’s been quite a turnaround from mid-season under the Belgian.

Oliver Glasner meanwhile looks set to take over Crystal Palace at a tough moment, the Eagles 15th in the table and only five points off the relegation zone.
