Rangers made an announcement via their official X handle about Emmanuel Fernandez, who has been in exceptional form.

Fernandez moved to Ibrox from Peterborough United in the summer for a £3.5m fee, and he hit the ground running, becoming one of their most important players.

This has seen Chelsea and Arsenal show an interest in securing his services come the end of the season as well.

Rangers announce that Emmanuel Fernandez has been called up by Nigeria

The Gers confirmed on X on Wednesday that Fernandez has made Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming international break.

The centre-back was congratulated by the club as this was his debut international call-up.

Reports in Nigeria claimed back in February that the 24-year-old had decided to represent the Super Eagles at the international level.

Fernandez had an option to pick England as well, but had decided to turn his back on the Three Lions.

This news was not confirmed, but that was made official when Nigeria boss Eric Chelle named him in his squad.

Chelle had a conversation with the defender and the two were on the same page, so an international debut is on the cards in the coming days.

Will Fernandez be at Rangers next season?

Barry Fry claimed that Rangers could sell Fernandez for £40m as he backs the soon-to-be Nigeria international to have a blistering career.

Given interest from Bayern Munich along with the top Premier League clubs, the Gers are in the driver’s seat with this situation.

If Fernandez does tell them that he wants to leave, they could look to spark a bidding war if they feel they can get top dollar from his sale.

One thing that works against the club is the fact that Nigeria will not be playing in the World Cup.

Usually, players’ valuations spark after good performances in international tournaments, but that will not happen with Fernandez.

Still, Rangers will look to get at least six times what they paid for him in the summer if they are to cash in on him in the coming months.

Ideally, Danny Rohl would like to keep him on for another season at least.
