Derek Cornelius’ future at Ibrox appears to be in major jeopardy after Rangers have made a behind-the-scenes decision.

The on-loan Marseille defender has not made a first-team appearance for the Gers since 9 November as he suffered a muscle injury.

Cornelius was stepping up from his injury lay-off over the past few weeks, but it does not look like he will be a part of Danny Rohl’s side any time soon.

Derek Cornelius banished from Rangers first team

According to Read Rangers, the centre-back’s career at Ibrox could be over with the club deciding to banish him from the first team.

Rohl issued positive updates about the Canada international over the past few weeks regarding his return from injury.

Prior to his setback, he was playing regularly for Rangers and it seemed that there would be added competition for places once he was fit again.

However, that has not happened with him being told behind the scenes that he will be training and featuring for the reserves.

There are also unconfirmed claims that his training gear has been moved out of the complex.

Sources have stated that he will be training with Malky Thomson’s side and there looks to be no way back for the 28-year-old.

Has Cornelius played his last-ever game at Ibrox?

As Cornelius looked like he was nearing a first-team return, he appeared to have two months to prove why he deserved to be signed permanently.

However, this development means that there is a high possibility he has played his last game for the club and will not feature for the first team at Ibrox.

The real reason behind this has not been revealed and it certainly will have come as a surprise.

Even Rabbi Matondo, who is clearly out of favour at Rangers, has not been subject to similar treatment as Cornelius.

It remains to be seen if Rohl is asked about the centre-back, as this has been a strange development.

This happening means that the Light Blues are once again going to be in the market for a new centre-back once the transfer window opens.
