Rangers loanee Zak Rudden has told Plymouth Live that discussions are imminent amid a potential extension to his stint with Plymouth Argyle.
The 19-year-old striker has just three goals in 17 appearances for the Pilgrims this season, but scored the winner away at Cheltenham on Boxing Day and started the home win over Stevenage on Sunday.
When he made the move to England in August, he was scheduled to return to Ibrox in January. However, it seems that may not necessarily be the case.
“Yes, of course,” Rudden told Plymouth Live, when asked if he was keen to extend his stay. “We just need to wait and see.”
“It’s a great place, great team and great boys. Everything is just brilliant.
“I’m going to go in probably after the game on Sunday and have a word with him (the manager, Ryan Lowe).”
Verdict
With Rudden struggling for playing time across November and early December, an extension to this loan deal looked highly unlikely.
However, he seems to have finally shrugged off a niggling knee problem and having started the last two games, now appears to be a much more prominent part of Ryan Lowe’s plans.
From his point of view, then, it’s easy to see why staying on is appealing.
Should he return to Rangers, there’s little prospect of first-team football, with Colts and Development Squad fixtures his only realistic chances of game time.
Yet, if he stays with Argyle, he would have another six months of competitive league football in which to impress.
With his Gers contract up in the summer, his long-term future remains uncertain.
