Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty was powerless to resist as adopted loan club Hibs threw away a goal lead to lose 3-1 against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

The 23-year-old Gers midfielder has been impressive during his spell at Easter Road and started the match in the middle of the park for the Scottish Premiership side.

But after Christian Doidge had Hibs leading at half-time, the Dons proved too strong in the second and wound up winning the tie with their three second-half strikes securing the points.

An Adam Jackson own goal had Aberdeen level, Andrew Considine put the Dons in front before striker Curtis Main completed the scoring with eight minutes to go.

Ex-Rangers full-back Stephen Whittaker also saw red early in the second half.

It is the second time in a week Docherty has played in a disheartening defeat for Hibs with the Leith club coming off the back of a 3-1 humbling to city rivals Hearts in the week.

Docherty has come in for much praise from the Hibs fans for his performances since joining the club on loan on deadline day in January.

The midfielder has impressed throughout his seven appearances for Jack Ross’ side, scoring three goals in the process.

Doc even secured a Man of the Match award for his performance in the Edinburgh club’s 3-0 win over Ross County last month.

Docherty is on-loan at Hibs until the end of the season [BBC] and the diehard bluenose still retains hopes of making the grade at Ibrox.
