Exciting Rangers loanee Josh McPake has earned praise from former Premier League striker Jon Stead after scoring his first senior goal on Tuesday night.
The 19-year-old winger made his Rangers first-team debut in 2019 as a substitute in a Europa League qualifying fixture against St Joseph’s at Ibrox.
That is his only senior Gers appearance to date and although he’s shown quality at times, he’s struggled in front of goal during loan spells in the SPFL Championship at Dundee and Morton.
However, he’s now getting his first taste of the EFL at League Two club Harrogate Town and is finally off the mark in senior football.
The Scotland youth international made his third start for his newly adopted side away at Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday and scored the opening goal of the game in the 25th minute.
After being slipped through on the left side of the area, he drove forward before lifting a composed finish past the goalkeeper.
37-year-old Jon Stead, who played 86 times in the Premier League across spells at Blackburn, Sunderland and Sheffield United and is now a teammate of McPake’s at Harrogate, took to Twitter to praise the young Gers prospect.
Great finish too!! 👌🏻

Unfortunately for Harrogate, they weren’t able to hold onto their lead, and Tranmere went on to win the game 3-2.
Simon Weaver’s side are currently 20th in the League Two table and six points above the relegation zone.
McPake will be looking to prove he’s capable of excelling at senior level during this loan stint and so he’ll be eyeing another tangible contribution when Harrogate welcome Newport County to the EnviroVent Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Other Rangers prospects are also currently impressing with their loan clubs, with one earning rave reviews for a dazzling showing in the Championship at the weekend.
