Rangers loanee Juan Alegria made his first senior start in Scottish football for adopted side Partick Thistle as a narrow 1-0 win over Inverness which ignites their promotion ambitions.

Alegria joined the Jags on loan from the Ibrox side until the end of the season, having featured for the B team on a regular basis.

He made an appearance from the bench against Arbroath in a 1-1 draw which was his first game for the Championship side, and he obviously did enough to earn a starting berth on Friday evening.

Rangers loanee Juan Alegria starts for Partick in a crucial Championship win

Partick scored with five minutes remaining to leap up to the third spot in the Championship as they continue their impressive first season back in the second tier.

Alegria was substituted on the 69th minute and it will take a few matches for the young Colombian to get used to the physicality of the division, but there is no doubt he can help the club in their promotion charge.

Alegria signed for Rangers from Finnish side FC Honka on a three-year deal in the summer and he has heaps of potential.

Akin to Alfredo Morelos, the striker has the perfect role model to look up to and develop. After all, the Ibrox side signed Alfie from Finland and he hasn’t turned out too badly for us.

The 19-year-old might take a while to settle into the club, but a loan move will hopefully build his confidence and give him the opportunity to get regular senior game time which can only be beneficial.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst could have a player on his hands when the youngster arrives back at Ibrox in the summer.

Meanwhile, former Rangers star Lassana Coulibaly featured for Salernitana as they were thrashed by Inter Milan.
