Former Rangers midfielder features as side thrashed by Inter Milan

Former Rangers midfielder Lassana Coulibaly played for U.S Salernitana as the Serie A side were thrashed by reigning champions Inter Milan 5-0, which keeps the side rock bottom of the league.

Salernitana has only won once in 17 matches in a dire run of form which has kept them bottom of the top flight and will surely send them back to Serie B for next season. This run also included a hammering by Inter before Christmas.

Lautaro Matinez scored a wonderful hattrick to send the Scudetto holders into a three-goal advantage before Edin Dzeko netted a quickfire double to seal the win and keep the Milan side on course to retain their title.

It’s fair to say the former Gers midfielder isn’t exactly setting the world on fire in Serie A this season. In 20 appearances, Coulibaly has yet to register a goal or an assist.

The Malian international signed for Rangers on loan from French side Angers in 2018 as one of Steven Gerrard’s first signings.

The player initially impressed as the Ibrox side came through four rounds of Europa League qualification to secure a place in the group stages.

The 25-year-old played 30 matches and scored three goals during his loan stint in what was a transitional period for the Gers.

Spells in France and Belgium before joining Salernitana haven’t helped him gain a degree of consistency, and his recent performances for the Serie A side could mean his next move will be crucial if he is to live up to the talent, he showed during his first few months at Ibrox.

In other news, Rangers’ loanees starred for Linfield as another win saw them top the NIFL table as they chase a fourth league title in a row.
