Rangers loanees star in crucial win which sends Linfield top of the league

Rangers loanees Jake Hastie and Chris McKee both starred for Linfield as they defeated Carrick -Rangers 2-1 to jump to the summit of the league table, with McKee scoring a cheeky backheel winner.

The match took place on Friday evening, a week later than scheduled due to the league’s Covid guidelines.

Linfield raced into a two-goal lead, with Jake Hastie drilling in a low cross that was turned into the opposition net by midfielder Thomas Scully for an own goal.

McKee produced his party piece shortly before halftime. Hastie was again lively and put in another cross which the 19-year-old finished with a cheeky backheel to give Linfield a comfortable halftime advantage.

Carrick Rangers scored with 20 minutes left to make it a nervy finish, but Linfield clung on to jump back to the summit of the NIFL.

Rangers loanees Chris McKee and Jake Hastie excel in yet another Linfield victory

It’s fair to say that both players are enjoying themselves at Linfield and getting plenty of game time, something that was badly needed for the two to continue their development.

Hastie signed for the Gers in 2019 from Motherwell as a bright young talent, but he has struggled majorly and been sent on numerous loans. Spells at Rotherham, Motherwell, and Partick haven’t exactly been productive, hopefully, this spell in Northern Ireland can give the player some confidence.

McKee looks like an excellent prospect and the chance to feature regularly for Linfield is a great opportunity.

The striker looks like he has settled in well and hopefully, he can return to Rangers in the summer filled with confidence and ready to kick on, maybe with a league winners medal around his neck.

Meanwhile, Rangers star Joe Aribo has admitted to a lack of form ahead of today’s tie against Aberdeen.
