Rangers loanee Jordan Jones has received an injury boost at Sunderland, according to a Sunderland Echo report.

The mercurial winger joined the Black Cats on loan in January after a frustrating first half of the season at Ibrox.

He started well at the Stadium of Light and has two goals and three assists in nine League One appearances.

However, his progress was halted earlier this month when he picked up a niggle ahead of the EFL Trophy Final.

Jones missed out on the Wembley showpiece, as well as subsequent league fixtures against Accrington Stanley and Lincoln City.

With little in the way of specifics provided regarding the Gers loanee’s condition, Sunderland fans expressed concerns and when he pulled out of the Northern Ireland squad ahead of a pair of World Cup Qualifiers, it looked as though he could be out for some time.

However, according to the Sunderland Echo, Jones has resumed light training and although he’s unlikely to be available to face Bristol Rovers on Saturday, his return to action isn’t thought to be far away.

Meanwhile, a striker Rangers have transfer options on has vowed to kick on after ending a goal drought.
