Rangers loan duo Matthew Shiels and Cammy Palmer were affected as Clyde’s League One fixture against East Fife was postponed following a Covid-19 outbreak [SPFL.co.uk].
Clyde released a statement on Friday afternoon confirming that four of their first-team players had tested positive.
At that stage, the Bully Wee were awaiting instructions from the Joint Response Group, but Saturday’s fixture was eventually called off after the club informed the SPFL that they couldn’t fulfil the fixture.
The SPFL’s statement on the matter confirmed that several additional players were now self-isolating after being identified as close contacts of those who had tested positive.
With no player names included in the statements, at this stage, it’s unclear whether or not Shiels or Palmer have been caught up in the outbreak.
Shiels signed for Clyde in August on a season-long loan and Palmer joined him in October following his return from a stint in the United States with the Rangers’ partner club, Orange County SC.
Shiels has started all nine of Clyde’s fixtures so far this season at left-back, but midfielder, Palmer, hasn’t featured since his nightmare debut against Peterhead in October.
Danny Lennon’s side remain 8th in League One despite the postponement, but as a result of the outbreak, their home fixture against Forfar Athletic next weekend is also now in doubt.
