Rangers loanee Cammy Palmer experienced a nightmare debut for Clyde on Saturday afternoon just hours after signing for the League One club.

Palmer is a former Rangers Reserves captain who has already spent quite a bit of time away from Ibrox.

The 20-year-old midfielder spent the first half of last season on loan at Partick Thistle and after returning to represent the Gers in the UEFA Youth League, he headed stateside in February to join partner club Orange County SC.

He turned out 13 times for the California-based side in the USL Championship, scoring twice, but he returned to Glasgow earlier this month after his adopted team failed to reach the playoffs.

Palmer’s capture until the end of the season was announced by Clyde at 1pm on Saturday afternoon, much to the delight of manager, Danny Lennon.

“I’m very pleased and excited to welcome Cameron to Clyde FC,” he told Clydefc.co.uk. “He is a talented midfielder who has played with both Scotland and Northern Ireland at international youth level and, as such, I’m sure he will enhance what I believe is an already strong squad here at Clyde.”

He didn’t have much time to settle in, though, as he was thrust into the matchday squad for the 3pm kick-off against Peterhead at Broadwood.

Lennon turned to his new signing in the 62nd minute, shortly after his side had gone 1-0 down, but the Gers youngster wasn’t able to make the desired impact.

Less than ten minutes after he had been subbed on, Palmer was forced off due to injury.

Peterhead doubled their advantage immediately after his withdrawal, to secure their first win of the season.

At the time of writing, the nature of Palmer’s injury hadn’t been specified by Clyde.
