Rangers links to Galatasaray attacking midfielder and Romanian international Olimpiu Moruţan have resurfaced in the press as the transfer window comes to a head.
The Gers were linked to the 22-year-old Super Lig star in December but since those Turkish reports appeared things have gone cold regarding any prospective interest.
Back then Rangers were said to be “serious suitors” [Fotomac] for Moruţan but it’s taken that season-ending injury to Ianis Hagi for the links to resurface.
Watford Hiring Roy Hodgson Is A Joke.
The Scotsman have been mentioning the interest amid that injury and claim that Olimpiu Moruţan was originally cited as a potential Ianis Hagi replacement should transfer interest be realised.
With 22-year-old Hagi going through surgery on a knee issue, the Romanian will be out for the season with Rangers fans sending plenty of tributes and well-wishes online.
Hagi took to social media to thank fans for their support but now Rangers look likely to invest in someone to come in and bolster the squad’s creativity.
Rangers links to Galatasaray star Olimpiu Moruţan appear far-fetched
Olimpiu Moruţan presents an interesting option but we’re unsure just how likely any Rangers move might be considering the player only moved to underperforming Galatasaray in the summer.
Signing in a £3m deal from Steaua Bucharest in August, Olimpiu Moruţan has gone on to make 33 appearances for Galatasaray, scoring four goals and laying on five assists.
Considering Moruţan has signed a five-year deal at Galatasaray, we’re also not convinced that Rangers are likely to make these links official.
Still, given the Ibrox side’s burgeoning online rivalry with Turkish giants Galatasaray, it might be quite nice to pinch a player from that “small club” in Istanbul.
Speaking of Rangers transfer business, Ibrox fans got themselves into a bit of a frenzy amid reports surrounding a £7.5m-rated attacker.
