Rangers have been linked with a move for Croatian international Osijek striker Mirko Maric, six months on from the reported interest in the lanky striker.

Back in May, Rangers were said to be facing competition from the likes of Fenerbahçe [AKSAM] for the signature of the talented forward.

Whilst nothing materialised back then, according to Balkans football journalist Filip Mishov, Rangers’ interest in the striker hasn’t gone anywhere, whilst he also confirmed earlier reports concerning the pursuit of Lovro Majer.

“Rangers are interested in signing Lovro Majer (21) & Mirko Marić (24) from Dinamo Zagreb & NK Osijek, but I believe it will be very hard to convince them to sell in the January transfer window & as of now, I don’t think anything is imminent,” said Mishov.

“[Maric is] the most prolific player in Croatia. He isn’t one-season wonder, last season he scored 18 goals & noted 7 assists in 35 games.

“Rangers were interested in him few months ago, but nothing concrete came off. Now, after watching him closely they’re convinced in his abilities.”

However, Mishov notes that if Rangers are interested in signing the 24-year-old forward then they will need to cough up more than £3m.

Maric has hit 16 goals this season, including 14 in the HNL.1, and is the leading scorer in the Balkans country.

Mishov is claiming that if Rangers are seriously interested in signing both Lovro Majer – who had a £6m price tag [Richard Wilson] slapped on him earlier in the week – and Mirko Maric, then it could cost up to “£12m combined”.

On top that, Mishov claims that Rangers will have to wait to make their move with Osijek not interested in selling players this window.

Is Maric being primed as the long term replacement to Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos?
