Croatian outfit HNK Gorica have one eye on a replacement for Rangers-linked Croat left-back Marijan Cabraja, according to a report from the Balkans.
24Sata are claiming that the Croatian First League side has one eye on an unnamed MLS left-back amid claims their 23-year-old star could move on in the not-so-distant future.
That report also claims that Cabraja has also turned down a move to an “exotic” destination as he harbours hopes of a spot in Croatia’s Euro 2020 squad this summer.
Should he make the team, he would be in direct competition with Rangers’ resident Croatian full-back Borna Barisic, who is reportedly a key player in any Ibrox move for Cabraja.
Rangers were linked with a move for Cabraja this week after the player himself claimed the Ibrox club were watching him but that any move depended on the future of Barisic.
“It is true that Rangers are following me. Contact has been established but it all depends on how the situation with Borna Barisic develops,” said Cabraja [Daily Record].
“I don’t believe that the Scots will pay as much as Gorica are asking for, but let’s leave that aside now, the only thing that matters to me is how we will play in Split on Sunday.”
So for Rangers to be a part of this apparent left-back transfer chain reaction then we’d need to see pivotal first-teamer Borna Barisic leave Ibrox.
Once linked with a £22m transfer to Spurs [90min], as well as multiple Serie A sides, the marauding Croatian international full-back had made ten assists and scored twice in 26 games at Ibrox this season.
Rangers will be hoping to hold on to the 28-year-old as they look to build a side capable of challenging on multiple fronts in the second half of the season.
Cabraja isn’t the only player being linked with a move to Ibrox recently either – the Gers reportedly have one eye on a Paris born winger currently plying his trade in France.
