Rangers-linked star admits that he would be interested in Ibrox move

Rangers-linked midfielder Jack Wilshere admits that he would be open to a move to the Gers but has said that the Ibrox club “wouldn’t be my first choice”.

The ex-Arsenal midfielder – who is without a club since being released by West Ham in October – also says that he would only consider moving to Glasgow due to Steven Gerrard.

Currently training in Dubai and with Wilshere said to be interesting in exploring something a little unconventional, the player gave his verdict on talk of a move to Rangers.

“It would interest me because it’s Steven Gerrard,” said Wilshere [Dubai Eye].

“That’s no disrespect to Scotland.

“It never crossed my mind playing there but now that Gerrard’s there the door certainly isn’t closed by it wouldn’t be my first choice.”

The comments of Wilshere come after a report in Portugal claimed that the 28-year-old had turned down a move to Spanish outfit Valencia because he was holding out for a move to Rangers [Record].

A source close to Wilshere had also told the Press Association that the midfielder would consider Ibrox way back when links started appearing in the press.

Dubious journalist Nicola Schira had claimed that Rangers were in negotiations with the player, something later echoed by ex-Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips [Football Insider].

Rangers fans had also previously called for the Ibrox club to make a move following Wilshere’s release from the Olympic Stadium.
