The red mist descended on reported Rangers target and Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram as he was sent packing in the Blades’ 1-1 Premier League draw with Brighton.

Ex-Everton youth Lundstram, 26, went over the top of Brighton defender Joel Veltman in a crushing challenge which was upgraded to red from yellow for serious foul play via VAR.

Initially, Lundstram’s first-half exit from the match didn’t phase bottom of the table Sheffield United who managed to get their noses in front midway through the second period.

But Jayden Bogle’s goal was eventually cancelled out by a late Danny Welbeck strike which means the Bramall Lane side are still without a win in the league this season.

Rangers have been routinely linked with a move for Lundstram in the press with the Athletic first revealing that the Gers were looking at the midfielder.

Out of contract in the summer, the Scottish Sun would later suggest the Gers could look to move for the player on a pre-contract deal in January.

But as reports coming out of Yorkshire Live claim that the Blades will be open to offers for the player in January, it could have some Gers fans asking the question over a potential winter move.

Whilst Lundstram would add some bite, energy and quality to the Ibrox club’s midfield, it’s fair to assume this sort of tackling wouldn’t go unnoticed in a Rangers jersey north of the border.

Lundstram isn’t the only midfielder plying his trade in England who has been linked with a move to Ibrox – another midfield star linked with Rangers returned from injury this week.
