Rangers-linked AZ Alkmaar manger Pascal Jansen continued his impressive start to the Eredivisie season with victory over Ajax.
The 50-year-old coach masterminded a 2-1 victory in Amsterdam which has AZ Alkmaar 2nd in the Dutch top flight and unbeaten after eight games this season.
Only familiar Rangers Champions League foes PSV Eindhoven have a better record in the division, their run of eight victories slightly better than AZ’s seven wins and solitary draw.
Greek striker Vangelis Pavlidis gave Pascal Jansen’s side the lead just before halftime, with Dani de Wit having the Rangers-linked manager in dreamland 12 minutes into the second period.
Branco van den Boomen then pulled one back for Ajax with just over 15 minutes to play but it was too little too late for the Dutch giants who are – quite remarkably – now 16th in the Eredivisie table.
The result follows on from AZ Alkmaar’s 1-0 Europa Conference League win over Legia Warsaw during the week.

AZ Alkmaar’s Pascal Jansen linked with Rangers job
Pascal Jansen is one of a number of names linked to the vacant Rangers manager’s job as the club looks to replace the outgoing Michael Beale.
The Gers have opted to sack the English coach after falling seven points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race.
There has been some mixed messages regarding Pascal Jansen, the AZ Alkmaar boss linked right at the beginning of the managerial race and said to be interested in the role.
Most recently this has been echoed by Sun journalist Alan Nixon, who claims Rangers will speak to Jansen about the gig with the London-born manager keen to work in Britain.

However, there has been cold water poured on the claims with Sky Sports also recently suggesting that it’s “unlikely” Pascal Jansen will move to Rangers.
The manager himself also appeared to rule himself out of the running by claiming a move to Ibrox was “completely out of the question”.
