Rangers linked Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean has praised current Ibrox star Ryan Jack on Instagram following his stunning weekend goal.

The Gers were first linked to McLean, who grew up supporting Rangers, in November 2020 by the Scottish Sun.

It was suggested that either a loan or a permanent move was possible, with the Scotland international struggling for regular game time at Carrow Road.

However, no transfer materialised in the winter window and after overcoming a knee injury and Covid, the 29-year-old has re-established himself in the Norwich XI as the Canaries push for promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

As shown by a jibe at Celtic on Instagram last month, McLean is clearly enjoying Rangers’ march to the title, though, and he is a player the Gers could still keep an eye on going forward, with Glen Kamara attracting attention from elsewhere and Steven Davis at the back end of his career.

Steven Gerrard’s side took a step closer to the league title on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock and Ryan Jack’s 38th-minute volley was the difference between the two sides.

McLean likely enjoyed the goal on two fronts, as a Gers fan and as an international teammate of Jack’s, and he responded to the Gers star’s Instagram post after the game.

Jack posted a photo of him embracing Steven Davis with the caption: “Learning off the best” and McLean replied with the rocket and love heart eyes emojis.

The Norwich City star wasn’t the only fellow pro to respond, with Davis and formerly Rangers-linked QPR forward Lyndon Dykes also posting praise.

It was just a second goal of the season for Jack but it was a vitally important strike with Rangers now back to winning ways and just four victories away from the league title.

Social media activity isn’t always a true reflection of a player’s intentions, but another Rangers-linked star, who is out of contract in the summer, hinted on Instagram last month that he would like a move to Ibrox.
