Rangers linked Claudio Marchisio is reportedly set to take a press conference at Juventus’ Allianz Stadium on Thursday where he will announce his future [Daily Mail].

The 55-times capped Italy international is without a club after the mutual termination of his contract at Zenit St. Petersburg.

Reports previously said the player was mulling over offers from three clubs – Monaco, Flamengo and Rangers – but some believe he could well be about to announce his retirement from the game.

The previous international break was dominated by all the paper talk concerning Rangers apparent interest in the player.

So far nothing concrete appears to have emerged but there has been plenty of speculation.

Reports from Italy [Matteo Pedrosi] and France [RMC Sport] both claimed Steven Gerrard wanted to take the former Juventus “number 8” to Ibrox.

Previous comments Marchisio had made about his respect for Steven Gerrard [Football Italia] appeared to suggest that these links may be plausible.

But the Rangers boss appeared to rubbish the links himself [Daily Record] as he answered questions following all the crazy speculation which borne from the links.

You have to say, if the player is even considering retirement then he must be some way away from full fitness to make an impact on our squad.

Whilst the thought of a fully fit and firing Claudio Marchisio in Scotland might sound like an exciting one, supporters will remain sceptical.

I guess we’ll find out the truth about Marchisio’s future come Thursday.
