Rangers-linked attacker boasted £45m clause before Premier League pain

Rangers are reportedly closing in on a deal for Brighton attacker Abdallah Sima but before the Senegal star’s stint in England the forward once boasted a £45m release clause.

That’s according to the likes of Calcio Mercato, who claimed that Czech side Slavia Prague had a €50m release clause for the player amid extensive links to the Premier League.

Whilst the forward would eventually move to Brighton for a reported £7m in August 2021, the bold release clause for Abdallah Sima gives an insight into how highly rated the player was during his time in the Czech Republic.

Rangers know all about the attacker’s talents from his time at Slavia Prague, with Abdallah Sima stealing the show in the controversial Europa League quarter finals between the two sides in 2021.

This was after the then-teenage forward had put Premier League Leicester City to the sword with a stunner in England that preceded the club’s clash with Rangers.

But given the highly-rated nature of Abdallah Sima’s years in the Czech Republic, the last few seasons have been a tad underwhelming for the now 22-year-old forward.

Injury disrupted the player’s first season in England, with the forward suffering a series of a major injuries which had a profound impact on an instant loan spell with Stoke City in the Championship.

Abdallah Sima was limited to only four appearances for the Potters and failed to score for the club.

In the last season, the wide-attacker spent the campaign on loan at Ligue 1 Angers, with those injury problems persisting and the player struggling to reach full fitness.

In 33 appearances in France, the attacker scored five goals, with the club relegated from the French top flight and Abdallah Sima returning to Brighton before these links with Rangers.

It appears Rangers are set to secure a loan deal for a player who has it all to prove from breaking through with such promise in his early career, as Abdallah Sima reportedly prepares an Ibrox switch.

Michael Beale knows all about the forward given he was assistant coach during the defeat to Slavia Prague and if the Rangers boss can get the same player who was once protected by a £45m release clause then it certainly bodes well for the Gers.
