Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has told current Ibrox star Todd Cantwell to “keep yourself quiet” after a message to the Ibrox fans this week.

The former Gers captain was speaking on GO Radio’s Football Show [06/09/23] as the fall-out continues over the Ibrox side’s disastrous start to the season.

Compounded in the weekend’s 1-0 home defeat to Old Firm rivals Celtic, Rangers are out of the Champions League, four points behind in the Premiership and not playing well.

With Michael Beale a man under pressure Todd Cantwell took to Instagram to offer fans an apology and it’s not gone down well with legendary ex-Rangers skipper Barry Ferguson.

Telling Todd Cantwell to do his talking on the pitch, it’s all a bit feisty when it comes to Rangers at the moment and the two-week international break appears to be getting to the best of us.

Barry Ferguson tells Todd Cantwell to do talking on pitch

“See things like this (Todd Cantwell’s post),” said Barry Ferguson. “Forget about it. Go and do your talking on the pitch.

“I’m sure if you ask any Rangers fans – I get that social media has its place for players, it’s good for a lot of things – but do the talking on the pitch and that comes in the next game against St Johnstone.

“Fans aren’t daft, they want to see performances on the pitch and that’s what they expect and demand.

“I get it is now the way with social media, but just keep yourself quiet and turn up at McDiarmid Park and skud them three or four nothing and get three points.”

Posting on his Instagram stories, here’s what Todd Cantwell said which has upset Barry Ferguson so much with Rangers fans still reeling from that Old Firm defeat:

“We need actions not words however silence can seem cowardly in these times.

“We need unity and togetherness to turn this season successful. It’s not the start we wanted although everything is still in our hands.

“You fans are incredible and deserve to see better. Over to us.”

Whilst Barry Ferguson might be railing against Todd Cantwell for posting on Instagram, it’s worth noting he’s not the only Rangers first-teamer to do so since the devastating Celtic defeat.
