Celtic cheerleader Chris Sutton is always fond of a conspiracy when it comes to Rangers and his latest had one Gers legend clamping his nonsense in a superb shutdown.

Ibrox hero Ally McCoist and ex-Parkhead frontman Sutton clashed over the subject of retrospective action with the SFA’s disciplinary process the topic of the week.

Ever since moving into punditry Sutton’s loved a moan and a groan and accused some kind of dark forces at the SFA being behind Alfredo Morelos evading a ban following the 1-0 Old Firm win in 2018 [Daily Record].

His latest comments come after Rangers’ complaints about a lack of “consistency” in decision-making following retrospective action against both Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe.

According to Sutton, Rangers’ response to the incidents is evidence the club is trying to “run” Scottish football.

“With the Roofe stuff I thought there was a mistimed challenge,” said Sutton [BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra].

“Look, was there any malice in it? You rob a bank for the first time but it was a poor challenge, I thought it was a red card and I think Scott Brown was a yellow card.

“But for Rangers to get involved once again… the conduct of Rangers has been pretty poor.

“We know what they’re trying to do, put pressure on the authorities – trying to run the game!

“I said last week, Alfredo Morelos, the SFA and the referees are petrified of Morelos!

“The referees can’t make a decision, they’re scared to get the red card out.”

Rangers legend Ally McCoist was then quick to defend his old club and manager Steven Gerrard and claimed he was “spot on” to bring up the consistency issue.

“Steven Gerrard was 100 per cent spot on,” said McCoist.

“He wasn’t even close to having a point – he hit the point right on the head!

“That’s what our Steven did, he got it spot on! Don’t listen to that man!

“All Mr Gerrard is asking for a level of consistency and it looks like the compliance officer has maybe, just maybe, taken Steven’s views on board.

“From where I’m sitting Steven Gerrard and Rangers’ conduct has been nothing short of exemplary.

“They have accepted the decision regarding Morelos, not even complained.

“They’ve said, ‘we’ll accept this but what we would like is a level of consistency’.”

Rangers legend McCoist hasn’t held back in his commentary of Scottish football this season and gave Celtic both barrels following their failed trip to Dubai earlier in the year.
