Rangers legend Ally McCoist has blasted Celtic for their mid-pandemic trip to Dubai as the Ibrox hero blasts the Parkhead club’s “stupidity”.

Celtic attracted the negative attention of the Scottish Government and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon when they jetted off to a winter training camp in the Middle East.

Claiming it was for training purposes, Celtic players and staff were pictured drinking poolside whilst Neil Lennon’s claims the trip was for “R&R” brought into question the motives behind the move.

To make things even worse the SPFL engineered a fixture changes behind Hibs’ back to facilitate the move whilst they remain three games behind Rangers in the title race.

All during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The SFA have since decided they will not follow up on Nicola Sturgeon’s complaints but it didn’t stop McCoist criticising the club.

“No… I hear what Chris [Sutton] is saying regarding not having broken any rules,” said McCoist [Scottish Football Extra].

“Right, that’s fine, I get that.

“But, c’mon guys, in the current climate, who in their right mind thinks it’s a good idea to go to another country with a group of players when there’s just been this second bout of the virus?

“It’s a stupid idea in so many ways, so many counts.

“If the Government thought it was a good idea, why has Nicola Sturgeon asked the SFA to look into the matter?

“If she deals with it how it’s required, she should be dealing with it herself.

“But the fact she’s then asked the SFA would indicate to me she wants the governing body to do something about it, whether it’s have a look at it or whatever, I don’t know.

“But they’ve chosen not to do it, because potentially they’re a little bit embarrassed for, again I use the word ‘stupidity’.

“In this day and age, I can’t go up and visit my 94-year-old mother!”

Rangers fans have previously railed against the Parkhead club for the move and the latest comments of the First Minister lay bare the selfishness of Celtic’s actions.
