There’s been a lot of fawning over outgoing Rangers chairman Dave King after he announced his intention to step down at the club’s most recent AGM.
The South Africa-based businessman had fans teary-eyed as he addressed the crowd in a rousing, emotional speech looking back at his Ibrox tenure [Rangers].
And as a result of what King has achieved at Ibrox, former star Ian Durrant believes the ougoing chairman may well earn a statue for his contribution.

“They got the right people in when Dave King, Paul Murray and John Gilligan took over,” said Durrant [Herald].
“They are Rangers men at heart and just want to see the club getting back to what it used to be. He came in and steadied the ship.
“He got Steven Gerrard and his backroom staff in and everything seems to be going in the right direction.
“He has signed £7 million players and has built a good squad. They have backed the manager to the hilt when he has asked for things.
“But Rangers are now challenging Celtic and we will find out in a couple of weeks (in the Betfred Cup final) what they have got.
“We all know the significance of this year’s league. He has backed the manager and if the manager goes on and wins the league I think there will maybe be a statue of Dave King getting put up somewhere.”
The transformation of Rangers since Dave King answered his “duty” to salvage the club from the charlatans who had reached the boardroom is monumental.
From a Europe-wide laughing-stock to European success, in five years King has helped steer us from Championship strugglers to Premiership contenders.

There have been plenty of hiccups along the way but now Rangers look to be on the right path going forward.
Could the club seriously immortalise “the man who saved Rangers” in a statue should they win the league?
