Rangers have a monumental summer ahead of them with new players needed throughout a team where only a handful of players can really be trusted.

There will be hopes of transfer guarantees if the agreed takeover by the San Francisco 49ers is confirmed sooner, rather than later, with the Rangers squad needing several players moved on.

One key component of the player trading model laid out by Patrick Stewart is for Rangers to sign the best of the Scottish talent that is available with Lennon Miller the cream of the current crop.

Celtic join Lennon Miller chase as Rangers sweat on takeover

Unfortunately, unless there is a funding boost from the takeover, the chances of Nils Koppen landing the Motherwell midfielder look slim as teams with considerably deeper pockets circle.

According to The Daily Record, Celtic have joined Eintracht Frankfurt, Udinese and Union Saint Gilloise in courting the teenage midfielder who would go straight into Rangers starting XI, and they are considering a summer offer.

Rangers have just implemented a new policy of sending academy graduates and those on the fringes of the first team out on loan.

There is now almost an entire starting XI from the B team out across the SPFL in the hope that playing regular senior football has the desire impact.

Miller, who Bailey Rice stole the limelight from when they were in the same Motherwell youth team, would cost over £3.25m, but has shown already that he would be worth every penny and it is easy to see why the Steelmen have rejected offers

The 19-year old is a dead cert for young player of the year, is composed on the ball, aggressive and already has a good physique and athleticism beyond his years.

Why Rangers have already identified Miller as a target?

In short, Miller is exactly the type of player that Stewart described Rangers are going to target

“So, we need to have real focus and discipline when it does come to player trading. And if you look at the way we traded in summer, this is how we intend to trade going forward. There are essentially three profiles of player that we are focused on when it comes to player trading.

“Firstly, younger players who have the mentality to play for Rangers and who fit within our financial parameters. And then we have a first-team management group that develops those players so that they’re contributing minutes on the pitch immediately and they’re also increasing in value on the transfer market.”

Letting the best young player in the country head across the city to an already packed midfield roster would be borderline negligence, especially when some of the recent transfer fees that have been paid are considered.
