Robbie Fraser just wanted to play games when he left Rangers on loan in January.

Fraser signed for Livingston until the end of the season, joining up with David Martindale’s side to aid them in their push for promotion to the Premiership.

Philippe Clement had promised to give him opportunities after blooding him and giving him a run out against Celtic, but the young defender was mostly kicking his heels on the sidelines.

The 21-year-old has been getting the game time he craved but that is not all. He has also been impressing in a Lions side winning most weeks.

Playing mostly in his favoured left-back role, Fraser seems to be making the most of his opportunity.

David Martindale on Rangers loanee Robbie Fraser

Fraser made a quick impression at Livingston, scoring on his first start and picking up the man-of-the-match award against Airdrie.

He would go on to be crowned the club’s in-house player-of-the-month for January.

Manager David Martindale was chuffed with his new addition and spoke in glowing terms about just how good a player he is.

The young Gers kid has continued to apply himself and is proving a handy member of Martindale’s squad during the run-in as they compete for at least a play-offs spot. The title is looking difficult now but not out of the question, sitting eight points behind Falkirk.

The Livi boss feels Fraser can head back to Ibrox in the summer, do pre-season with the squad and challenge to be part of Barry Ferguson or a new manager’s plans.

He told Rangers media: “Robbie is a left-back who can play one up and I think he can also play inside. He first came on the radar in the Lowland League when he was playing for Rangers.

“I had a good relationship with people at Rangers, so he’s always been on the radar slightly.

“If I am doing my job properly, he should be in a position to go back in the summer and go away with Rangers in pre-season. We are going to give Robbie a certain skillset that he’s not had previously.

“I’d be disappointed, and it depends who the permanent manager is, if he didn’t have the opportunity to go and push on, but that will come down to the player in the summer too.”

What Fraser has said about Livingston loan

Giving his own perspective on his experience, Fraser said: “When Rangers and Livingston got in contact with each other and Rangers were happy for me to come here, it has all the standards in terms of winning and pushing to the top of the league that I want.

“I want to have that pressure every day where you’re trying to pick up three points, and I love that feeling of being under pressure to perform.

“I would say I’m definitely better off going back to Rangers now.”
