Douglas Park is set to be named the interim chairman of Rangers as outgoing South African businessman Dave King steps down at Ibrox as planned.
King announced his intentions to move on after five years as the Ibrox chair in late November suggesting that he leaves the club in a much better position than he found it.
The news that King has stepped down is being widely reported on social media with Park being named as his successor, at least in the short-term.
The move may come as a surprise given the timing of the move with Rangers and the rest of Scottish and European football in an enforced lockdown due to the coronavirus.
However, King made clear his intentions to step down from the Rangers board in March during an emotional speech to shareholders at the club’s latest AGM.
Things haven’t gone quite to plan since then on-the-pitch but King is clearly determined for consistency in decision-making off it.
The South Africa-based businessman has been through the wringer at the very top of Rangers since taking over the club alongside the Three Bears in 2015.
In the face of Takeover Panels, share issues, terrible managerial appointments and the tiresome retail battle with Sports Direct, King has helped drive Rangers from a footballing basket case to a club and squad with real assets and ambition.
It is an experience that King readily admits he was not able to enjoy, describing it as a “duty” [Rangers].
King will remain a shareholder at the club and involved in its affairs but will no longer reside as chairman.

Here’s how the club’s supporters reacted to the news he was set to step down back in November.
Scottish businessman Douglas Park is of Park’s Motor Group, one of the largest privately owned motor vehicle groups in Scotland and has been on the Rangers board since 2015.
