Rangers wing-back Borna Barisic is in line to start the Old Firm Scottish Premiership clash against Celtic at Ibrox after going off with an injury against PSV Eindhoven.

The Croatian international, 29, had emerged as a major doubt for the first Old Firm clash of the season after going off with the problem in midweek.

Rangers were humbled 5-1 in Eindhoven with the club conceding a further two goals once Borna Barisic went off with injury but the left-back is not expected to miss the clash with Celtic.

In fact, with Turkish international Ridvan Yilmaz only just returning from yet another injury, the former NK Osijek captain is now in line to start what promises to be a ferocious match in Govan.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Celtic, Michael Beale confirmed that injury is not expected to keep Borna Barisic out of the Rangers side.

The Ibrox manager also confirmed that as things stand, only ex-Norwich City midfielder Kieran Dowell is a doubt for the match after missing the games with Ross County and PSV.

“Borna is fine, yeah,” Michael Beale said.

“We had a scan and he should train tomorrow and should be available for selection.

“The only one is whether Kieran (Dowell) makes it because of his slight knock with his knee but that’ll be touch and go.”

Borna Barisic in line to start as Rangers handed golden Celtic chance

Rangers go into the match with an expectant Ibrox support demanding their side bounce back from the Champions League humiliation of midweek.

The Ibrox side collapsed in the Netherlands and dropped down into the Europa League for the season.

Facing off against a wounded Celtic, the club have a huge opportunity to lay down a title marker and give them an Old Firm bloody nose.

Their stumbling start to the season has been compounded by a defensive injury crisis whilst the pressure is on controversial coach Brendan Rodgers.

Having also rejected Rangers’ offer of 700 tickets for the match, Celtic will be bringing no fans to Ibrox this afternoon.

Rangers have a golden opportunity to bounce back from the defeat and whilst some in the media are expecting a close match, nothing less than victory with pacify a frustrated Ibrox support.
