Rangers injury blow sees Philippe Clement find immediate solution

Philippe Clement will have to make do with what he has until the January transfer window and the latest update on Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin will be a frustrating one.

Speaking after a comfortable 2-0 win over St Mirren, the Gers boss confirmed that it might be some time before his compatriot is seen in his squad any time soon.

In Nicolas Raskin’s absence, Philippe Clement has had to shuffle his pack in the engine room with Rangers fans seeing what could be the first choice selection for the coming run of games.

Rangers have solution to deal with Nicolas Raskin absence

Since joining a year ago, Raskin has been a first team regular, however, the new Gers gaffer has rarely been able to call on his services.

The injury, sustained against Hearts in the dramatic 2-1 win, looked a bad one at the time, however, a conservative course of treatment appears not to be working.

When asked for an update on the 22-year old, Clement said, via RTV:

“Nico will have a new assessment next week because his rehab is not going well so I am not so happy about that but it is what it is. We have to find solutions.”

It is standard practice to try to rehabilitate most injuries conservatively, except the obvious ones without the need for surgery, but it looks like that option has now been exhausted.

Rangers depth in midfield isn’t great just now with Ryan Jack also injured and Jose Cifuentes struggling to show the sort of form that made him a £6m target for various Premier League sides – Nicolas Raskin’s absence has been sorely felt.

Against St Mirren though, it looks as though Clement may have stumbled across the perfect solution.

Rangers dominate possession at Ibrox so, having a player like Tom Lawrence next to John Lundstram is a plan that could compensate for the loss of Nicolas Raskin.

Not only is Lawrence composed on the ball but he offers more of an attacking threat too.

Raskin was previously a key player, however, he will face a fight to get his place back when he returns – however long that might take.
