Rangers bosses have decided the final two candidates for the managerial role – Philippe Clement and Kevin Muscat.
And, according to The Daily Record, Rangers already have a preference between Philippe Clement and Kevin Muscat.
Rangers prefer Philippe Clement to Kevin Muscat
The report has claimed that Rangers have held talks with both Clement and Muscat over replacing Michael Beale.
Beale was sacked as the Rangers manager following a run of poor results in the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers have reportedly held talks with both Clement and Muscat and will continue discussions.
The Daily Record has claimed that although former Rangers player Muscat is in the frame for the Gers’ managerial role, the Scottish Premiership club’s hierarchy’s “top choice” is ex-AS Monaco boss Clement.
One Philippe Clement issue facing Rangers
However, there is an issue.
According to the report, “Clement wants a long term commitment from Rangers”.
Clement has concerns after he saw Rangers sack Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale relatively quickly.

From the Rangers side, the problem is that they have had to “shell out hefty compensation packages to both Van Bronckhorst and Beale and their coaching staff”.
So, the former Scottish Premiership champions are reluctant to commit to a long-term deal and then potentially face the same situation down the line.
I believe that Rangers should do what they think is best for the club.
There is no point in committing to a very long-term deal with Clement if they have doubts.
Now, of course, I understand why the 49-year-old would want security.
Every manager wants that.
However, in my view, Rangers should not hand Clement more than a fixed two-year contract.
Rangers are not a ‘project club’.
I believe that Rangers need to start winning the Scottish Premiership title, or, at the very least, go close to doing so.
So, if he gets the job at Rangers, then Clement has to win the title with Rangers by the end of next season.
