Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller has waxed lyrical about Ibrox star Allan McGregor, who he believes was instrumental to Rangers’ title win [Scottish Sun].
McGregor spent a period out of the side early on in the season following a series of niggles, but reestablished himself as no.1 in September and has been a near ever-present since then.
He’s kept a remarkable 20 clean sheets from 38 appearances across all competitions, with his 16 in the Premiership second only to Joe Lewis of Aberdeen’s 17.
Miller thinks McGregor brings a lot to Rangers on and off the pitch, while he feels Steven Davis has been similarly influential.
“Look at Greegsy, he comes alive when the pressure’s on,” said the former Ger [Scottish Sun]. “He has been absolutely phenomenal this season, even at the age of 39. Some of the saves he’s made are incredible.”
“But he has done that throughout his career, making big saves in big moments to put points on the board.
“But most of all, these boys bring a mentality to Rangers. I’m talking about standards. That’s why bringing Davo and Greegsy back was massive for the football club.”
Rangers’ defensive record has been outstanding this season and the work done by the likes of Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Leon Balogun has ensured that McGregor has been little more than a spectator in some matches.
In others, though, he’s been extremely important, showing outstanding reflexes and shot-stopping abilities.
Therefore, it was no surprise when the club moved to tie him down to a new deal last month.
Meanwhile, an exciting new teenage recruit has said that signing for Rangers was the ‘best feeling in the world’.
