Bologna didn’t want to sell the towering forward this summer although his paltry 116 minutes on the pitch suggest that he should have been allowed to leave.
Picking up the phone to ask if a loan to buy deal would be considered in January wouldn’t be a bad option given that the Ibrox outfit are relying on just Cyriel Dessers and Danilo for our central striking role.
The elephant in the room is who Van Hooijdonk’s dad is but that shouldn’t be an issue when a player of this calibre is available.

At 6ft 4inches tall, Rangers would be getting a physical presence up front in Sydney van Hooijdonk but he is also capable of scoring all types of goals and can link play with others.
