Rangers star Borna Barisic admits he feared the worst as he pulled up against Celtic – but now he’s revealed he could be back in time for trophy day.

The Gers are set to lift their first Scottish Premiership trophy in a decade on May 15th as they welcome northeast rivals Aberdeen to Ibrox Stadium.

It’s a moment which is set to send reverberations through bluenoses around the world and a day which will live long in the memory of everyone who enjoys it.

Borna, 28, has played an immensely influential role in this side this season and the notion he could miss the match against the Dons would’ve been a sore one for both himself and fans to take.

The left-back was in visible pain as he left the Ibrox pitch in the 4-1 Old Firm win and this also had some fearing the worst regarding his inclusion in the Croatia squad for Euro 2020.

Opening up on the situation in the press, Barisic admits that he was scared he’d miss his Euros chance but revealed he’s eyeing a return to the pitch against the Dons.

“I felt a little muscle pain during the game. It hurt, so I went off the park,” said Barisic [Daily Record].

“However, after the examination, everything is fine, there will be no problems. This is not an injury that will cause me any worries.

“When I felt it, I thought it was something more serious, I was worried. I wasn’t injured last season or the season before so it would be really terrible if I had got an injury before the Euros. Thank God, it wasn’t serious.

“I immediately went for an MRI scan and waited for the result.

“Fortunately, the findings are quite good. So I am completely calm now, there are no indications that this is any problem that would keep me out. It is good that everything ended well.

“I should be fine for next weekend. We’ll see how it all unfolds in the coming days. Since this is a minor injury, I will leave it to the club to decide when my next game will be.

“Hopefully, I will be able to play before the end of the league season.”

Rangers full-back Barisic is determined to make an impression at the Euros having narrowly missed out on the Croatia squad which made the World Cup Final in France.

The former NK Osijek captain is now the nation’s first choice left-back and he’s very excited about the prospect of representing his country at the tournament.

“We still have two games until the end of the season at Livingston and at home to Aberdeen,” said Barisic.

“After that, I return to Osijek for a short vacation. Then come the preparations for the European Championships, the peak of the season.

“Although this season has been hard, I can’t wait to go with Croatia to the Euros.

“It’s been a great season with Rangers, really phenomenal.”

Barisic does have competition for that left-back berth with Croatia but the last time the nation dropped the Rangers full-back Borna answered them emphatically.
