Rangers handed key player injury boost after Dundee sweat

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been quick to quell fears surrounding the fitness of Ibrox winger Ryan Kent after he was subbed off in the 3-0 win over Dundee.

Tricky winger Ryan Kent was replaced by Amad Diallo with just over 10 minutes to play after a robust challenge with Dundee defender Ryan Sweeney.

Later seen icing his knee on the bench, it had some supporters sweating regarding the fitness of one of the club’s most important players, who was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet in the match.

Gers star Kent, 25, has been an increasingly influential player in recent matches and is a vital part of the Ibrox side’s attack when on song.

Particularly in European competition, Ryan Kent has continuously rose to the occasion of late and after being subbed with around 20 or so minutes to go fans might’ve been nervous regarding the clash with Red Star Belgrade.

Whilst Rangers hold a 3-0 lead in the match, the game is certainly not over until it’s over and the absence of Kenty particularly on the break certainly weakens Rangers’ options.

With £1.5m on the line for qualification to the Quarter Finals of the Europa League [UEFA], it could have some at Ibrox sweating over the player’s fitness.

But after the comprehensive victory over Dundee, Rangers boss Gio was quick to reassure fans the injury to Ryan Kent was minor.

“He’s fine. I think he just had a bruise,” said van Bronckhorst [Premier Sports].

“I don’t think it’s anything special. I wanted to take him off just before it happened, but he’s ok.”

van Bronckhorst was also quick to turn attentions to the trip to Belgrade as the players look forward now to a day off.

“We’re happy with the result, and we have a day to rest up,” said GVB.

“We will be back on Tuesday to prepare for Red Star, of course we played them last week, so I have a much better view on the game.

“We want to be in the next round. If you are winning or losing it doesn’t matter, you have to prepare the team for whatever comes.”

As Rangers celebrated the 3-0 win over Dundee, the goal celebration of one first-teamer dropped a hint regarding the club’s title celebrations.
