As Rangers dumped Dundee 3-0 at Dens Park to book a spot in the Scottish Cup semi-finals, some may have made a connection in the baby celebrations of James Tavernier and Connor Goldson.

Rangers vice-captain Connor Goldson opened the scoring for the Ibrox side and quickly ran to do a swinging arm baby celebration whilst also sucking his thumb.

A famous footballing celebration after the birth of your child, it follows on from a similar celebration in the 3-0 win over Red Star Belgrade from Goldson’s teammate Tavernier.

Captain James Tavernier – once again on the spot in the victory over Dundee – had kicked things off this week with greater cause for celebrations as the Rangers captain paid tribute to his daughter.

The birth of the Ibrox skipper’s newborn baby girl coincided with the Europa League clash with Red Star Belgrade and after opening the scoring from the spot, paid tribute in his celebrations.

After the match – another 3-0 victory – James Tavernier revealed that he’d promised his wife if he hit the back of the net for Rangers he’d put his daughter at the forefront of the celebrations.

“My wife gave birth to our baby daughter a couple of days ago,” said Tavernier [BT Sport].

“That was part of the celebration so I’m buzzing.

“She asked if I would do a celebration, so I had to get on the scoresheet. I’m buzzing for that, but just happy to help the boys and get a 3-0 to take into next week.”

Rangers baby celebrations line up with lifting 55

Eagle-eyed fans will notice the timing of both the celebrations of Connor Goldson and James Tavernier and perhaps line them up with the club’s title celebrations.

Around nine months ago takes us close to the end of May, start of June, when the Ibrox side lifted 55 and the club’s first league title and trophy in a decade.

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to connect the dots around about the same dates and we’re glad to see 55 helping spread the love, even if it might not have been on Trophy Day!

It’s great to see both the Rangers captain and vice-captain incorporate their happiness over new babies into their celebrations and if this is the case – Connor Goldson not confirming the celebrations where for his family at the time of writing – we wish both families all the best.

After Connor Goldson and James Tavernier had Rangers 2-0 up at the break, the result was rounded off with a second half goal from Fashion Sakala to ensure Scottish Cup progression and a trip to Hampden.

In other news, a former Rangers star has been valued at £15m with a Premier League outfit reportedly leading the pack for his signature.
