Jurgen Klopp thinks Steven Gerrard will replace him at Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp thinks Rangers boss Steven Gerrard would be brought back to Anfield if the European champions were to sack him – leaving Gers fans relieved Klopp’s doing a stellar job with the Reds.

Gerrard’s history at Anfield needs no explanation but with the Liverpool icon doing a fantastic job of turning Rangers around, nobody wants to see him leave Glasgow any time soon.

Klopp admits that Kenny Dalglish would be another likely candidate to replace him if he was to lose

“If Liverpool were to sack me tomorrow, then maybe Kenny would be the first choice to replace me, but they would probably bring Stevie down from Glasgow,” Klopp told FourFourTwo

“If you ask who should follow me, I’d say Stevie. I help him whenever I can.

“If someone gets your job, it’s not about them, it’s about you not being good enough.”

After lifting the Champions League and almost ending Liverpool’s long wait for a league title last season, Klopp was crowned as FIFA’s manager of the year last night so he isn’t likely to leave Anfield soon.

With Gerrard taking the Gers to the top of their Europa League group and looking like challenging Celtic for the title he has won huge support from fans.

A return to Liverpool is almost certain for Gerrard, barring a disaster, but the longer he spends at Ibrox the better he will be prepared for when he does eventually follow Graeme Souness from the manager’s office at Ibrox to the manager’s office at Anfield.
