Former Rangers chairman Dave King claims that it is “essential” that the Gers sell some of their star men in the coming transfer windows as they look to build a self-sufficient business model.
Rangers’ biggest shareholder was talking in the week where alongside Club 1872 he revealed plans to sell his shares to the supporters’ group to ensure fan influence in the Ibrox boardroom.

King has been part of a group of investors who have spent heavily to get Rangers to the position that they’re now in but believes the club has to look at selling key assets to keep sustainable following years of turmoil.
“I think [player trading is] more than inevitable, I think it’s essential,” said King [STV].
“The business model of Rangers as a successful club, the last couple of years, we were not a successful club, we were a catch-up club.
“We were investing – I stated this at each AGM – in resources way beyond the expected return to bridge the gap.
“But once you get back up there you can’t continue doing that so we have to become a trading company. I think we do have assets – for the first time – that we can trade.
“That’s going to become a key part of the manager’s job going forward, how to get resources out for value, bring resources in and not weaken the competitive spirit of the team.”
There’s been plenty of paper talk about the main assets at Ibrox but recently one Rangers player has been the subject of transfer links more than any other.
Rangers’ Finnish international midfielder Glen Kamara has been one of the club’s stand-out performers this season and has been heavily linked with a host of clubs this year.

The most recent of those include Europa League opponents Benfica [TEAMtalk] but there have been as many as 13 clubs previously linked to the ex-Arsenal academy youngster.
Brighton are the most recent Premier League side to be linked [Rincon Escoses] whilst Leeds United, Newcastle, Southampton, Everton and Burnley have also been mentioned.
Alongside those names, TEAMtalk also linked French side Lille and German giants Borussia Dortmund to the player in October.
Rangers are considerably better stocked in Kamara’s midfield area that what they are in the full-back positions of James Tavernier or Borna Barisic, who are also believed to be interesting other clubs.

If Rangers must sell a player in the not so distant future – could £50k Glen Kamara be one of the first players the Gers cash in on?
