Rangers’ flying full-back pair James Tavernier and Borna Barisic have both been the subject of transfer talk this week as their incredible form continues at Ibrox.

Barisic and Tavernier were both on the scoresheet in the weekend’s 4-0 win over Falkirk with the two forming a deadly combination.

There have been several occasions this season where one full-back has found the other with Barisic supplying James Tavernier once again at the weekend.

In total, the two have contributed to an incredible 35 goals between them; Barisic has netted twice (both direct free-kicks) and laid on nine assists, Tavernier has an incredible 14 goals and has laid on a further 10.

Not only that, but both players have been part of a Rangers side which has kept 18 clean sheets in 23 games this season.

The form of Rangers captain James Tavernier had former teammate Andy Halliday suggesting that teams from the Premier League must have an eye on the right-back.

“Take away his penalties, he has still scored six goals. How can a team not be watching that? Everyone has their price, I think he would wait until the summer,” said Halliday [Open Goal].

“But if a team sits down and offers double, triple your money – some people are going to get their head turned.”

Similarly, Borna Barisic has been touted for a big-money move with one valuation of the Croatian international coming in at a whopping £20m.

That’s according to Cowdenbeath boss and ex-Rangers star Gary Bollan, who also believes clubs a plenty will be looking at the former NK Osijek captain.

“If you’ve got the delivery he has, and the athleticism to get up and down the left flank like he does, then there’s no doubt that clubs in England will be looking at him,” he said [Daily Record]

“In England, a lot of clubs now play with their full-backs high up the pitch and if he went down there, he would be a success. I don’t doubt that for a minute.

“There’s no club in Scotland if they are offered £20m for players these days – and in today’s market that’s what you’d be looking at for a player like Barisic – that can refuse it.”

But before Rangers fans get too worried about the future of both players, mid-pandemic and with history on the horizon, it’s hard to see how the Gers don’t hold out to the summer.

This kind of transfer interest might be worrying on the surface, but it’s the kind of commentary which is reflective of the immense form both players are on.

This stunning run of performances is also getting one of these players in particular get noticed outside of Scotland.
