There are a few young players in Scotland who’ve caught the eye of Rangers fans this season and St Johnstone midfielder Ali McCann is the latest name interesting Ibrox fans.

The 21-year-old Northern Irish international has impressed in an over-achieving Saints side this season who’ve won both cups and finished in the top six.

For many, McCann may be the long-term understudy to Steven Davis for the Ulster team and there may be nowhere better to learn than under the veteran midfielder at Rangers.

A player who has been linked to Celtic in the past [BBC Scotland], there’s little doubt that bigger and better things will await McCann if he can continue to impress at McDiarmid Park.

After McCann played an influential role in the 1-0 Scottish Cup Final victory over Hibs, Gers fans took to Twitter as the midfielder caught the eye.

Some even suggested Rangers star Glenn Middleton – currently on loan at St Johnstone and wanted by the Perthshire club – could be used as a makeweight in any potential deal:

McCann, 21, isn’t the only young player in Scotland who has been mentioned alongside Rangers after an impressive campaign in the top flight.

Gers fans have previously spoken about Hibs full-back Josh Doig but a reported £4m price tag and the fact they face competition from 11 clubs may rule Rangers out of the running.

One player who has associative links to Rangers has also been mentioned alongside the club this week but should Rangers pounce or risk the same mistakes made by a rival?
