Rangers fans split over intensifying links to Aberdeen's Lewis Ferguson

Rangers fans are generally split when it comes to Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson and a potential move to Ibrox and that was precisely the case once again this week.

The Gers were said to be monitoring the player’s situation as a £2m bid came in from newly-promoted Premier League club Watford ahead of their return to the English top-flight next season.

Aberdeen – adamant they value Ferguson considerably higher than this – bit back and have been telling the Hornets to get serious if they want to sign the 21-year-old.

The entire thing took a sizeable twist when reports emerged claiming Ferguson – who is linked to Rangers through dad Derek and uncle Barry – had handed in a transfer request.

This was confirmed by Aberdeen who released a statement explaining they were “greatly disappointed” in receiving it and claiming it was “rejected immediately”.

“Aberdeen Football Club is greatly disappointed to have received a written transfer request from midfielder Lewis Ferguson today,” reads the statement.

“This request, made after the Club dismissed what can only be described as an insulting offer from an English Premier League club for one of Scotland’s most talented young midfield players, was rejected immediately.

“The Club holds Lewis in the highest regard. Having made a significant investment to both acquire and develop Lewis, he has a bright future ahead of him as an integral part of Stephen Glass’s squad.”

Rangers fans have seen their club poach the likes of ex-Aberdeen skipper Ryan Jack and tricky forward player Scott Wright on pre-contracts and then improve them at Ibrox.

Ferguson is very much a player in a similar situation but with ex-Dons legend Willie Miller claiming it’ll take at least £4m to budge him from Pittodrie, the club’s fans are split over a move.

Others just can’t resist sticking the boot in to the Dons as one of their best players looks to leave the club:

Rangers fans might be split over the situation concerning Lewis Ferguson but they certainly aren’t regarding one new striker at the club.

One player set to join the club in the summer netted a brace on his farewell game for his current side, much to the delight of fans.
