Rangers fans split over “disappointing” player as he is handed opportunity

Rangers winger Jordan Jones has officially moved to English League One Sunderland as he is handed an opportunity with the Black Cats in the second half of the season.

Jones, 26, has struggled for game-time at Ibrox this season and joins Lee Johnson’s side after failing to make an appearance with Rangers since coming off the bench in the 2-0 win over Livingston in October.

Jones was embroiled in a Covid-19 protocol scandal earlier in the season when he and George Edmundson attended a house-party in Glasgow.

Both were suspended by the club and handed a seven-match ban and despite being available to play ever since the 1-0 Boxing Day win over Hibs, neither have been seen since.

Speaking to the media after his return to the English northeast – Jones started his career with Middlesbrough – the winger claims the door has not be shut regarding a return to Ibrox.

“I can’t speak highly enough of the Rangers manager,” said Jones [Daily Record].

“I have nothing but respect for the manager and he has been great to me.

“He told me to get myself out and back enjoying my football again and we’ll see what position we’re in come the summer.

“I am grateful to Rangers and Sunderland for making it happen.

“I haven’t had a lot of football over the last 18 months. I am 26 now and I am approaching what is my prime.

“Now it is up to me to make my mark.

“I am in a position where I have to go on this loan to impress for Sunderland and Rangers.”

Rangers fans largely hold mixed views about the player following an in-and-out 18 months at the club and that’s reflected in how they reacted to this opportunity for the winger:

Rangers have been making their own moves in the transfer window so far securing the pre-contract signings of Aberdeen’s Scott Wright and Bournemouth’s Jack Simspon.

According to reports, this might not be the end of the club’s business either with Rangers having an eye on a third pre-contract deal this January.
