Celtic are reportedly set to complete a January move for Preston defender Ben Davies – little over a week after Rangers rubbished reports linking them to the centre-back.
According to Sky Sports, our Old Firm rivals are “closing in” on a deal for Davies with Preston reportedly wanting £2.5m to sign the player in this window.

That’s despite the fact Davies’ contract is expiring in only six months’ time.
The Sky Sports report claims that Celtic have been long-term admirers of Davies, 25, and that the Parkhead club are competing with the likes of Bournemouth and Sheffield United to sign him.
Rangers were heavily linked with a move for Davies in the press with his contract expiring at Deepdale and the club seemingly scouring the market for bargain signings.
But the club were adamant – both to the Press Association and to club insiders – that these links were not true as they talked down the suggestion they’d move for Davies.
Covered in a report by the Glasgow Times, Ibrox sources made it clear to the Press Association that they had “no interest” in the left-side centre-back.
That report also rubbished claims that Rangers are interested in Airdrie youngster Thomas Robert.

However, there is one young English Championship defender who Rangers are reportedly interested in.
According to the Bournemouth manager himself, Rangers-linked defender and out-of-contract 24-year-old Jack Simpson has “made his mind up” over his future.
