Rangers fans have been comparing the Manchester Derby with their Old Firm rivalry with Celtic – and for them, there is only one winner.
The Ibrox club has a storied history with their Celtic Park rivals and the derby is widely considered one of the most ferocious in world football, let alone Britain.
But as the Manchester duo played out a drab 0-0 draw in the Premier League, it highlighted a lack of intensity which is synonymous with the Old Firm rivalry.
Rangers’ matches with Celtic notoriously have an extra edge and its difficult to make a case for any other derby across the UK having the same bite as the Glasgow one.
Out of those played down south, perhaps only Man Utd v Liverpool or Arsenal v Spurs come close but north of the border no-one is left in any doubts how important the Old Firm derby is.
For both sets of fans – and for the country – everything appears to stop dead to watch the match, a nation transfixed to their television sets and in the stands.
After suffering 90 minutes of Manchester United v Manchester City, Rangers fans were left in doubts as to which derby was the bigger of the two:
Rangers and Celtic matches obviously also come with their own added dimension given all the bigotry and violence – which can’t be condoned – but as a spectacle it is enthralling.
On the Old Firm derby, Rangers fans were in stitches earlier in the week over the latest conspiracy theory coming out of Celtic Park concerning the Gers’ 13-point lead in the Scottish Premiership.
