Rangers fans have responded on social media after the club made a major announcement regarding flag day.
Traditionally, the league winner’s flag is unfurled on the first day of the season and until Tuesday, there was no reason to expect anything different this time around.

However, the club confirmed in the morning that only 17k fans would be permitted at Ibrox for the opening fixture against Livingston on 31 July.
As a result, some Bears suggested that attempts should be made to move flag day and it appears that the powers that be at Ibrox were already thinking along the same lines.
On Tuesday evening, a statement was released, confirming that following discussions with Police Scotland and the Glasgow City Council Safety Advisory Group, the club had written to the SPFL confirming a change of dates to 18 September.
It’s asserted that the flag will now be unfurled when the Gers take on Motherwell at Ibrox on that date, in what will be their third home match of the 2021/22 campaign.
It’s an unconventional move but a good one from Rangers, as it should mean that all season ticket holders are able to witness the event rather than only a relatively small percentage.
Unsurprisingly, most fans responded positively, praising the club for their proactive approach.
Here’s a selection of reactions from Twitter:

Absolute Bravo Mr Rangers. This, whilst unusual, is a brilliant move. Of course I want to be there, but no ST holder should miss out. This is putting the fans first. Very well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
