Rangers fans are getting used to trouncing Old Firm rivals Celtic in every regard and once again the club’s social media team has upstaged their city rivals.

The Gers have routinely blown Celtic out of the water on their socials over the last few seasons and have done so again in the first half of 2021.

This is according to research done by Deportes & Finanzas, who regularly analyse social media data for clubs across global football.

Across all of the club’s social media accounts – that is Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok – Rangers had 34.6m engagements.

Engagements are defined as the amount of shares, likes and comments on these feeds.

Celtic in contrast, only managed 10.3m engagements in the first half of the year, meaning the Gers have proven more than three times as popular as their Glasgow counterparts.

It’s not the first time the success of Rangers’ media team has been heralded by the data analysts nor the first time the club has been recognised for trouncing their Old Firm rivals.


Only back in April Rangers were recognised as being the 17th most popular sports club on Twitter in the world by the same group.

There have also been success stories on Twitter, YouTube and Instagram, where the club continue to be the most popular in the country.

Rangers even appeared to troll their rivals with a congratulatory tweet back in February.

But whilst those behind the scenes at Ibrox certainly deserve credit for putting out content worthy of these numbers, it’s the fans who’re consuming it that have the Gers flying.

Rangers continue to dominate in Scotland and going by the current situations at Parkhead and Ibrox, that doesn’t look like stopping any time soon.
