Rangers fans are celebrating on Twitter after fan favourite Niko Katic was snapped back at Ibrox ahead of trophy day [Rangers FC Twitter].
Katic signed for the Gers from Slaven Belupo in the summer of 2018 for a fee in the region of £2m [Sky Sports].
Since then, he’s endeared himself to the fan base with his passion for the shirt and no-nonsense approach to defending, while he scored a brilliant headed winner in an Old Firm at Parkhead last season.
He’s under contract until 2023 after signing an extension in October 2019 but has missed the entirety of this season with a serious knee injury sustained in July.
Katic has been back home in Croatia for much of his rehab process but Steven Gerrard confirmed earlier this week that he was ‘progressing well’ and had returned to Glasgow and he was snapped by the club’s media team at Ibrox on Friday.
The official club Twitter account posted a snap of the 6ft 4″ centre-back emerging from the tunnel with his arms spread wide and it sent supporters wild.

It’s unlikely that Katic will be rushed back into the squad for the purpose of him making a token appearance in the final game of the season against Aberdeen.
However, the fact that the 24-year-old was wearing a GPS vest suggests that he was at least doing some sort of training session.
The signs are good for the Croatia international in terms of him being fully fit for the 2021/22 season, but it remains to be seen whether or not there will be room for him in the XI, with Leon Balogun and Jack Simpson both joining the club since he last made an appearance.
